Pre-interview
- [ ] Clarify the purpose of the interview
- [ ] Team coordination
- [ ] Remind your team of the purpose of the interview
- [ ] Assign clear roles for anyone who will join (for example, moderators, observers, notetakers, etc.).
- [ ] Determine the way of communication between teammates during the meeting
- [ ] Familiarize yourself with the participant's background and context.
- [ ] Tailor your questions accordingly
- [ ] Do a tech check: confirm that screen sharing, recording, etc. works
- [ ] Check receipt of a signed participant agreement (example)
- [ ] Double-check any links, files, etc.
Remote
- [ ] verify that both you and the participant have a stable internet connection and that the chosen video conferencing platform is working correctly.
- [ ] Have a backup communication plan in case of technical issues. This may include alternative communication tools, phone numbers, or email for quick troubleshooting.
Introductions
- [ ] Thank the participant for their time
- [ ] Express enthusiasm for the participant's involvement, emphasizing the value of their insights.
- [ ] Set a positive tone by using friendly and open body language, even if the interview is conducted remotely.
- [ ] Introduce yourself, and anyone who is joining you
- [ ] Explain the purpose of your research
- [ ] Provide a brief overview of how the interview will contribute to the improvement of the product.
- [ ] Provide an overview of the shape of the interview, including any required logistics (for example, screen sharing)
- [ ] Confirm the expected length of the interview
